CRISIS ASSIGNMENT

Being that I am a resident from East Texas, I decided to find a crisis that hit home. On May 2, 2007, Marshall High School, www.marshallisd.com, received a bomb threat. All proper procedures were followed and it turned out to just be a hoax. GUEST SPEAKER BIOS

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. serves as Chief Prosecuting Attorney for the Hudson Riverkeeper and President of Waterkeeper Alliance. He studied at the London School of Economics and received his law degree from the University of Virginia Law School. Following graduation he attended Pace University School of Law, where he was awarded a Masters Degree in Environmental Law. He has wrote many books including: The Riverkeepers in 1997 and St. Francis of Assisi: A Life of Joy in 2005. Mr. Kennedy has worked on numerous environmental issues throughout the world.

Richard Heinichen is the owner of the first company licensed to bottle rainwater. He is also the mayor of Tanktown, Dripping Springs, TX. His business has been featured in magazines such as Reader’s Digest and Custom Home. Heinichen, along with his wife, came up with the idea in 1994 after moving to Dripping Springs, TX due to becoming tired of the calcium buildup in their water supply. After word spread, rainwater became famous and self-elected himself as mayor.

GOT WATER?

An in-depth look at today’s water system and keeping it healthy for tomorrow.

DATELINE- February 21, 2007- “Waterways: The Confluence of Art, Science, Policy, & Philosophy.” This is a conference to discuss important issues and raise awareness of water concerns throughout the world. Dates will be Tuesday, March 13 through Thursday, March 15. Location of the conference will be the Environmental Education, Science and Technology Building, 1704 W. Mulberry Street, University of North Texas campus. Guest speakers will include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., president of Waterkeeper Alliance. Cost of admission is free to the public.

This conference will bring together scientists, philosophers, artists, water managers and water specialists to discuss issues of the GBM and the world’s other river basins. The GBM Basin system, Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna Basin, is one of the most fertile river basins in the world and carries the most water in the world after the Amazon and Congo river basins. Dr. Klaver said WaterWays 2007 will focus on the GBM because the Philosophy of Water Program is starting a new initiative called River Cultures and Ecological Futures.

Richard Heinichen, owner of Richard’s Rainwater the first company licensed to bottle rainwater, will speak on Tuesday, March 13. Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. will discuss river issues on Wednesday, March 14. He is the president of Waterkeeper Alliance, which is an environmental organization founded in 1999 to unite all organizations that work to protect all water-bodies around the world. This organizations focus on quality water issues that impact health and well-being of nearby bodies of water and residents living near them. Director of research for the National Great Rivers Research and Education Center at Lewis and Clark Community College, Richard Sparks, will speak Thursday, March 15.

I actually wrote this last month. Not aware you are suppose to post these to the blog, which is something totally new to me. This is just a brief summary of my news release:

Dehydrated? Well, come join us on March 13-15, Tuesday through Thursday, at our second biennial Water Conference to discuss important issues and raise awareness of water concerns throughout the world. The place to be is the Environmental Education, Science and Technology Building on the University of North Texas campus. The cost of admission is free and open to the public. Rainforest Action Network

The organization was founded by Randy "Hurricane" Hayes in 1985. RAN campaigns for the forest and its inhabitants. Its relies on grassroots organizing to pressure large corporations. Over time it has had numerous successes in its Old Growth, Global Finance, and Zero Emissions campaigns against logging companies, banks, and vehicle manufacturers. Sources: www.wikipedia.com
